Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoon matcha powder
  • 6 tablespoon butter frozen
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • cup white chocolate chips optional

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and matcha powder.
  • Freeze the butter for 15-30 minutes then grate the butter with a box grater. Using a pastry blender, food processor, or your fingers, cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, and vanilla extract. Add this to the flour mixture and stir until everything is evenly moistened.
  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead gently until it comes together. Roll or pat the dough into a 1-inch thick disc. Cut the dough into 8 wedges (like a pizza) and transfer to the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the scones are cooked through. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Once the scones have cooled, melt the chocolate in a double boiler or in the microwave. Drizzle the chocolate over the scones and let the chocolate set for 5-10 minutes before serving.
