Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil
  • ½ medium yellow onion
  • 1 medium bell pepper any color
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup tomato ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar white or apple cider
  • 6 hamburger buns
  • 3 tablespoon salted butter

Instructions

  • Combine the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, yellow mustard, and vinegar in a small bowl and set aside.
  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the onion and diced bell pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the onions are translucent.
  • Push the onions and peppers to the side of the skillet and add the ground beef. Use a wooden spoon to break it up into smaller pieces and cook until browned (about 5 minutes). Drain any excess grease, if needed.
  • Pour the ketchup mixture over the beef and stir to combine. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce is thick.
  • Butter your hamburger buns and toast them in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Serve the sloppy joe mixture on toasted buns with a side of coleslaw, if desired.
