What You’ll Need To Make Halloween Candy Corn Jello Shots

Ingredients needed to make Halloween candy corn jello shots.
    • Vodka: You can use any type of vodka you like for this recipe. I usually go with a cheaper brand, but feel free to use your favorite. Smirnoff whipped cream flavor vodka is perfect for this recipe as it gives the jello shots a little extra flavor.
    • Gelatin mix: I used two packets of Knox gelatin for this recipe, but you can use any type of gelatin you like.
    • Condensed milk: This helps to give the jello shots a creamy texture and color for the white and yellow layers of the shot.
    • Orange jello: This is used for the orange layer of the shots.
    • Yellow food coloring: This is optional, but it will help to give the jello shots a more authentic candy corn look.
    • Caramel extract: This is used for the orange layer and gives the jello shots a nice flavor.
    • Candy corn: These are optional, but they make for a fun garnish.
    • Shot glasses: You’ll need around 10 shot glasses for this recipe. I like to use plastic shot glasses so that I don’t have to worry about them breaking. My favorites are these 3oz plastic shot glasses.

    Step-By-Step Instructions

Now that you have all of your ingredients, it’s time to start making the jello shots! I'll walk you through the steps involved for each layer below:

    White Layer

Step 1: Combine the gelatin mix and water in a small saucepan.

Step 2: Heat over low heat, stirring frequently until the gelatin has dissolved.

Step 3: Remove from heat and stir in the condensed milk and vodka.

Step 4: Pour one ounce of the mixture into each shot glass.

Step 5: Refrigerate for 30 minutes or until set.

    Orange Layer

Step 1: Combine the orange jello, water, and gelatine mix in a small saucepan.

Step 2: Heat over low heat, stirring frequently until the gelatin has dissolved.

Step 3: Remove from heat and stir in the vodka.

Step 4: Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes then pour one ounce of the mixture over the white layer in each shot glass. Allowing the mixture to cool will prevent the hot orange layer from melting into the white layer below.

Step 5: Refrigerate for 30 minutes or until set.

    Yellow Layer

Step 1: Combine the gelatin mix and water in a small saucepan.

Step 2: Heat over low heat, stirring frequently until the gelatin has dissolved.

Step 3: Remove from heat and stir in the condensed milk, yellow food coloring, caramel extract, and vodka.

Step 4: Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes then pour one ounce of the mixture over the orange layer in each shot glass.

Do These Jello Shots Taste Like Candy Corn?

Candy corn is described as having marshmallow, vanilla, and buttery caramel-like flavor notes. These jello shots definitely have flavor and sweetness reminiscent of candy corn, thanks to the whipped cream vodka and caramel extract. However, with the addition of orange jello, they don’t taste exactly like candy corn.

If you’re looking for a cocktail that tastes just like candy corn, I recommend this Halloween candy corn cocktail recipe with infused vodka. This drink tastes just like candy corn thanks to the candy corn-infused vodka.

    Recipe Tips And Tricks

Here are a few tips and tricks to help you make the perfect Halloween candy corn jello shots:

    • Make sure to use cold vodka. This will help to prevent the jello from clumping.
    • If you want a stronger candy corn flavor for these eye-catching jello shots, use candy corn-infused vodka. You can learn how to make it by following this candy corn cocktail recipe.
    • If you want a non-alcoholic version of these jello shots, simply omit the vodka. You can also substitute it with cold water.
    • After preparing the jello for the orange and yellow layers, allow it to cool slightly before pouring it into the shot glass. This will prevent the hot jello from melting into the previous layer and help you keep the border between the layers nice and crisp.

    Serving Suggestions And Substitutions

Here are a few serving suggestions and substitutions for these Halloween candy corn jello shots:

    • If you want to make these jello shots even more festive, garnish them with candy corn or orange and yellow sprinkles.
    • If you want to make a non-alcoholic version of these jello shots, simply omit the vodka. You can also substitute it with cold water.
    • If you’re looking for a stronger candy corn flavor, use candy corn-infused vodka. You can learn how to make it by following this candy corn cocktail recipe.
    • You can add a swirl of whipped cream to these jello shots for an extra festive touch.

    How To Store Leftovers

Leftover jello shots can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days. I like to store them in a plastic container with a lid so that they don’t dry out.

Jello shots can also be frozen. Simply place them in a freezer-safe container and store them in the freezer for up to 2 months. When you’re ready to enjoy them, thaw them in the fridge overnight.

Tools And Equipment For This Recipe

Le Creuset Saucepan: This is my go-to saucepan for cooking small-batch recipes over the stove. It heats evenly and the enameled surface is easy to clean. It’s great for making each layer of these candy corn jello shots and it cleans up quickly between each layer.

Plastic Shot Glasses: I like to use plastic shot glasses for jello shots because they’re durable and easy to clean. You can also reuse them or dispose of them after your party, which makes cleanup a breeze.

Pyrex Measuring Cup Set: This set of measuring cups is perfect for measuring out each ingredient for these candy corn jello shots. The graduated sizes make it easy to measure small and large quantities and the clear glass lets you see how much liquid is in each cup. These cups are also perfect for pouring the jello mixture into the shot glasses.
